About the practice

Twelve years, two buildings, and a stubborn dislike of waiting lists.

Thornfield started in 2014 with two clinicians above a bike shop on Belmont Street. What has not changed is the thing it was set up to fix: that finding a therapist meant ringing round, leaving messages, and waiting weeks to be told there was no space.

How the practice is put together

Every clinician here is either fully licensed or an associate working under named supervision, and the supervision is on a fixed cadence rather than when somebody remembers. Cases are discussed weekly in one of three clinical meetings, and there is a standing agreement that any clinician can say a referral is not the right fit without needing to justify it to anyone.

We publish our waits, our fees and our sliding-scale bands because the alternative — asking people in difficulty to phone up and negotiate — puts the burden in exactly the wrong place. It is not a marketing position. It is the least we can do given who is reading.

Four things we hold to

Nothing is claimed about outcomesYou will not find a recovery percentage on this site. We can describe what we do and how we do it; how your therapy turns out is not ours to promise.
The money is written downEvery fee, band and policy is published. Nobody has to ask what they can afford in order to find out what something costs.
Changing clinician is normalIt costs nothing, needs no explanation, and does not restart your intake. Fit matters more than anyone's caseload.
We say no clearlyIf we are not the right service — acute care, an assessment, Oregon Health Plan cover — we say so on the first call and point you somewhere better.

Working here

We take on one or two clinicians a year and one associate. There is no rolling recruitment and no talent pool — when something opens it is posted on the Insights page and we say what it pays.
