Accessibility statement
This is a real statement rather than a badge. It says what we have done, what we know is still imperfect, and how to tell us when something on this site or in one of our buildings gets in your way.
What we are aiming at
We build and test this site against WCAG 2.2 level AA. We believe most of it meets that standard. We are not going to claim full conformance, because we test with a handful of people and a handful of tools, and a claim like that is only worth what the testing behind it is worth.
What we have actually done
Text and background colours across the site are checked to at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text. Every interactive control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and focus is visible on all of them. Touch targets are at least 44 pixels on a phone. Every image that carries meaning has alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than described pointlessly.
Motion and animation
Content fades in gently as you scroll. If your device is set to reduce motion, all of it stops — nothing on this site moves, transitions or animates once that preference is on. There is nothing that flashes, blinks or auto-plays with sound.
Forms
Every field has a visible label attached to it, not a placeholder standing in for one. Errors are described in words rather than by turning a box red. No form on this site has a time limit and none of them will lose what you typed if you take a while.
Known gaps
The live workshop player is a third-party component and its controls are less keyboard-friendly than the rest of the site; captions on live streams are automatic and imperfect, and the written write-up published afterwards is the accessible version of record. The Hawthorne Annexe entrance has one shallow step with a portable ramp rather than permanent step-free access, which we are working on.
Coming to see us
Belmont Street is step-free from the pavement with an accessible WC on the ground floor and an induction loop in the group room. Hawthorne Annexe has a portable ramp at the entrance, an accessible WC on the first floor and two accessible bays at the rear. Assistance dogs are welcome in every room in both buildings. Tell us what you need before you arrive and we will have it arranged rather than improvised.
Telling us something is wrong
Email hello@thornfield.example or call (503) 555 0142 and describe what happened — you do not need to know the technical term for it. We aim to reply within five working days and to say plainly whether we can fix it, when, or why not. If you need this site's content in another format, ask and we will send it.
